HILLARYS FORWARD WORKS


Client: Department of Housing and Works

Contract Period: June 2003 – September 2003

Total Value $727,562

The works consisted of the supply of materials, construction and maintenance during the defects liability period for the following items:

  • re-asphalting of an existing carpark.
  • realignment of existing road including new concrete paths and kerbs.
  • installation of new electrical cables and lighting.
  • realignment of existing Telstra and Gas services.
  • establishment a new sewer connection.
  • installation traffic control signs.
  • placement of line-marking.
  • construction of a brick wall including security gates.

NICHOLSON ROAD RAIL-BRIDGE AND NEW UNDERPASS

Contract Period: 13th Mar - 23rd June 2003

Total Value $ 448,000

Advanteering-Civil Engineers was awarded a contract to:

  • Supply and install prestressed precast concrete sections for the Nicholson Road Rail-Bridge
  • Supply and install precast concrete sections for the new Nicholson Road Pedestrian Underpass
  • Supply only precast concrete sections for the new ballast retaining wall.
The scope of works for each of the three sections of the project was:
  • Supply and install prestressed precast concrete sections for the Nicholson Road Rail-Bridge during a weekend shutdown:
    • Demolition of existing concrete abutment.
    • Erection of the spreader beam including grouting and bearing
    • Erection of the deck beams and edge beams
    • Poststressing of the deck and edge beams and associated grouting
    • Erection of the capping and handrail
    • Laying of ballast matting and geofabric

  • Supply and install precast concrete sections for the new Nicholson Road Pedestrian Underpass during a weekend shutdown:
    • Compaction of subgrade and limestone foundation to culverts
    • Installation of precast box culverts and bases
    • Installation of retaining wingwalls
    • Application of surface and joint sealants
  • Supply precast concrete sections for the new ballast retaining wall.
Advanteering was awarded the PTA Partnership Award by the Honorable Alannah MacTiernan for this project in recognition of a successfully completed project through effective communication and co-operative planning.

PEPPERMINT GROVE BEACH WATER TANK

Contract Period: 2nd May - 25th July 2003

Total Value $ 212,000

The works consisted of the supply of materials, construction and maintenance during the defects liability period for a 1,000m3 capacity, circular reinforced concrete, steel roofed water storage tank, pipework and appurtenances.

It consisted of the demolition and removal of an existing 225kL RC tank with steel roof, filling in of a disused drainage sump, site fencing, removal of a shed and septic tank, kerbing and regrading and resurfacing the site as shown on the drawings.

LEEDERVILLE PSP & UNDERPASS 9242 & EAST PERTH PSP & BRIDGE 9207

Total Value $3.4 million

This project is the continuation of the initiative to provide a dual use path along all of the metropolitan railway lines. This project includes the construction of two Principal Shared Paths in Leederville and East Perth.

The Leederville section includes:

  • 800m of dual use path
  • concrete underpass adjacent to a traffic bridge over the railway line
  • Pin Crib, limestone block and keystone retaining walls along the paths
  • electrical installation
  • landscaping
  • modifications to the West Leederville railway station

The East Perth Section includes:

  • 3km of dual use path
  • pedestrian bridge over Guildford Rd adjacent to the railway bridge (consisting of a precast concrete deck spanning between 1200WB steel girders)
  • approximately 1,100m of concrete or limestone block retaining walls along the path
  • electrical installation
  • landscaping
  • modifications to the existing carpark at Mt Lawley station
  • modifications to East Parade
  • 2 no. 'tree root bridges' which span over substantial tree roots to protect the trees rather than have them removed.

GUGERI STREET RETAINING WALL

"This project involved the demolition of the existing timber sleeper retaining wall opposite the subway near the Claremont Showground and the subsequent reconstruction of the wall using keystone blocks. "

PTA CARPARK MODIFICATIONS

Contract Period: 29th March - 25th July 2002

Total Value: $ 425,000

This contract was carried out for the WA Government Railways Commission to upgrade and modify the carparks at Westrail Centre, East Perth (West Parade and East Parade).

The project included:

  • Modifications to numerous islands around the West Parade carpark to allow the parking layout to be changed
  • Construction of an extension to the West Parade carpark of approximately 620 SM
  • Resurfacing of approximately 16,500 SM of the carpark on West Parade
  • Rekerbing the East Parade carpark
  • Recycling (mixing the existing asphalt into the basecourse material) and surfacing of approximately 5,000 SM of the carpark on East Parade

TONKIN HIGHWAY EXPERIMENTAL NOISE WALL AND FENCE EXTENSION

Total Value: $ 804,000

This project involved the construction of an experimental stabilised earth noise wall along Tonkin Highway in Embleton.

For the first time in Australia, the stabilised earth material was sprayed using gunite methods, rather than previous conventional ramming techniques. This PISÉ (Pneumatically Impacted Stabilised Earth) method was developed and used successfully in California.

The wall was approximately 625 meters long and 3.5 meters high above a concrete footing. The project was carried out for the benefit of local residents by lowering the noise generated by the heavy traffic along Tonkin Highway.

Also part of this contract was the extension of a limestone block wall and colourbond fence.

TOMATO LAKE BOARDWALK

Working for the City of Belmont, this project involved the construction of a boardwalk and gazebo over Tomato Lake, Kewdale.

The project included:

  • Demolition of two existing bridges
  • Removal and relocation of an existing causeway across the lake to construct a new island
  • Installation of 85 No. 250dia timber piles
  • Construction of the timber boardwalk and gazebo over the lake

CERVANTES JETTY AND SHOREWORKS

Contract Period: 22nd Jan-31st May 2001

Total Value: $ 1.7 million

This contract for the Department of Transport involved the construction of a commercial jetty and the associated shore works at Cervantes.

Works were completed 8 weeks ahead of schedule.

The project included:

  • Modification to the existing groyne to widen the running surface
  • Driving of 66 steel CHS piles (356dia and 406dia)
  • 120m long steel jetty structure supporting a pre-cast concrete deck
  • Water, electrical and fuel supply to the jetty and carpark
  • Extensive earthworks and contouring
  • Access roads and a 3,200 m2 carpark including lighting and drainage
  • HDPE fendering on the jetty structure

KWINANA C.B.H. BALLOON LOOP NOISE ATTENUATION WALL

Total Value: $ 333,000

This project involved the construction of a "noise wall'' to protect surrounding residents and businesses from noise generated by freight trains servicing Kwinana industries near the Cockburn Sound. Working for Westnet Rail, the job included associated earthworks and the erection of 430 metres of a 4 metre high wall, which consisted of steel columns and recycled plastic sheeting between columns.

Bikewest WA plans to link all railway stations with a dual use path. As part of this initiative, this project for MRWA included:

  • Geogrid/limestone retaining walls and associated earthworks
  • 2 No. Dual Use Footpaths (Lengths 227m and 907m)
  • 2 No. footbridges (precast concrete and structural steel)
  • Street Lighting
  • Landscaping and irrigation
